CPSC, along with our federal partners at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), is conducting an expansive nationwide investigation regarding problem drywall in an effort to provide affected homeowners with answers and solutions.

Today, we are releasing three draft scientific reports: a 51-home indoor air study, a preliminary electrical component corrosion study, and a preliminary fire safety component corrosion study.  Most significantly, the 51-home report finds a strong association between certain drywall and corrosion of metals in homes that were tested.  The Interagency Task Force continues to investigate whether there is a direct connection between the subject drywall and reported health symptoms.

Based on our findings released today, the next step will be to develop a screening program to identify homes with affected drywall and remediation methods that could be used to address the corrosive effects and environment.

Please visit CPSC’s “Drywall Information Center” at http://www.cpsc.gov/info/drywall/index.html for more information about the federal drywall investigation and the studies that have been released.  If you have any questions, please contact CPSC’s consumer Hotline at (800) 638-2772. See "Related Links" for CPSC's report.

Knauf has agreed to accept service of lawsuits for a period of one month. Until now, service of process (the formal mechanism by which you serve a party with a lawsuit) was required to be made through the Hague Convention, which costs approximately $15,000 per claimant.
Claimants who have Knauf drywall will now be able to consolidate their claims in one omnibus class action complaint against Knauf.
Homeowners must submit evidence that their home contains Knauf drywall, such as photos of markings or visual inspections reports.  THE  DEADLINE IS DECEMBER 2, 2009.
